This kid is going to be spoiled rotten by his mama if he keeps this cuteness up. Happy due date, little one – I’m glad you decided to make your appearance early!
The Little Mr., Declan, decided to make his grand appearance in the world on Friday, August 8th at 38 weeks and 5 days. I’m completely smitten with him! He’s so little, at 5lbs 11oz, that the “newborn” clothes are horribly baggy on him, but I know that all too quickly he’ll outgrow those and I’ll no longer have my bitty baby (which makes me horribly sad just thinking about it now).
Adjusting to life with a newborn is definitely a change, and I’m still working on establishing new routines, but we’re getting there and things are adjusting out a bit.
Dishcloth, baby bonnet, handspun yarn. I went in on a KnitPicks order with my knit group girls and have yarn for holiday stockings and I started one for the teenager-almost-20-year-old immediately. Never mind that I hate rushing into the winter holidays, or that I hate the over-commercializing of them. Or that I’m not even sure how we’re going to handle holidays now with this new little one. I even bought more sock yarn while at Joanns buying needles for the stockings. I don’t need more sock yarn, and I don’t know when I’ll get to it, honestly. But it was half off and the yarn (Patons Kroy) knits up well and holds up really well to washing/drying and is, therefore, perfect yarn to make gift socks out of.
Today I made another batch of chocolate syrup for milk. And beer marshmallows. And knit. And later we’re grilling chicken, making grilled potato wedges, and having strawberry shortcake for dessert and entertaining my sister and her kids.
Just trying to while away the time as much as I can until this baby decides to make his grand appearance.
It’s been a less-than-exciting day and just a part of a less-than-exciting week. The most excitement I’ve had all week was putting up some baby equipment I received last week from my coworkers (Oh, and the car breaking down… again). It’s just all so incredibly frustrating to want to do things and your body not cooperate. I feel like I’m getting a good picture of what it will like to be truly, physically old. But before I know it this pregnancy will be over – I’m looking at just over 6 weeks to go before my due date. I can do 6 weeks… I think.
I used my little cake pans to bake myself my own chocolate cake this year. It’s become somewhat of a tradition for me to make my own cake. I went with a recipe I found for a “smash” cake (the kind you give a baby on its 1st birthday to tear into) because it was the perfect size I wanted. The recipe isn’t great, however, and I intend to play with it in the future – it’s just not rich/chocolate-y enough. I’ll post a recipe when I find one I like – this one is just too bland to share. I threw together a small batch of cream cheese frosting but have plenty leftover so I might just make another cake or two before this vacation is over. And, of course, I topped the cake off with some red raspberries from the garden. Which I only now just realized is quite fitting since I’m a July baby and July’s birthstone is the ruby.
