The laziest Sunday of all.

After a busy busy Friday and Saturday with babysitting my niece and nephew, a bridal shower for a cousin, a lot of time on the road, and just overall a lot of energy and excitement, Sunday was a lovely day for something a bit more calm.  Breakfast Sunday found us at the local Perkins for breakfast rather than the usual stay-at-home variety. Biscuits and country gravy, bacon, eggs, and fruit with a cup of hot tea. I hadn’t been there in probably 10 years because I just never think of them when I want breakfast, and we normally go to Bob Evans despite me not being a huge fan. I wish we had more local, non-chain places to eat and get breakfast, but Perkins had country gravy (rather than sausage gravy, which I don’t like) so I was a happy camper anyhow.

The rest of the day was spent settled in on the bed re-watching episodes of Firefly and finishing up my second striped sock. With the pup all over me, of course. We so rarely let her upstairs anymore after her back issue around Christmas, and it’s even more rare that she’s allowed on the bed. She made a good job of interrupting my knitting, curling up next to me first, then resting her chin on my arm with those sweet eyes staring at me, and then forcing her way onto my lap. I even wound up some more yarn for my next project! (a shawl. I think. Maybe.)

If I wasn’t knitting, I was scouring the internet for vacation/birthday ideas. It appears that I have become obsessed with planning something big for my 30th birthday. Which, mind you, isn’t even until next July. How big? I want to go to Europe, I think. Scotland and Ireland, or maybe Italy or Greece. Or maybe France? We’ve talked about the Netherlands, as well. I’m not picky, really, I just want OUT of the US. My birthday is always full of 4th of July festivities and it will be nice to go somewhere where that day is really just another day and not some big national patriotic celebration. To be honest, I’m absolutely terrified of visiting a country where I don’t know the language but I think that kind of adventure might just be what I need. It’s good to get out of your comfort zone, after all. Plus, if we decide where to go early enough, I can go ahead and start working on learning some basic conversational phrases.

  1. Love your socks! What pattern did you use?
Your birthday trip project sounds very fun! Have you decided yet? If you come in France by July, you must know that the 14th is our National Patriotic celebration ;)

    1. Thanks, Dona! I just used my basic go-to sock and cast on 64 stitches, did about 10 rounds of ribbing, and then I altered each yarn every 2 rows for the stripes. I did a jogless stripe fix on the calf/ankle portion but gave up on that on the foot since no one would see it but me.

And we have not decided yet, though it’s looking more like we’re heading south to possibly Costa Rica instead. Airfare is cheaper and we don’t have the budget I had hoped to have to go to Europe like I wanted!
