Upgrading

Last weekend I finally decided, after hours and hours and hours of agonizing over what to buy, to use my birthday money and upgrade from my cheaper Boye interchangeable set to the Knitters Pride set from Webs.

They came in Friday and so far I’m pretty happy with them. The cables are definitely a huge improvement – they’re far more flexible than what I’m used to using. I made sure I ordered an extra cable in the two larger sizes (47″ and 60″) as I plan on making the Shipwreck Shawl one of these days and I’ll need the larger sizes.

The 60″ is currently in use for my Vernal Equinox shawl, which I’m ever-so-slowly making progress on. I’m about finished with clue #4, and I think I’m going to skip clue #5 to jump right into the edging. This piece is already large and cozy, and I’m afraid if I continue to knit much more it’ll be dragging the floor when I wear it!

  1. By any chance, are the Knitters Pride cables compatible with your Boye needles? I have Boye, but can’t stand my cables, and would rather upgrade just my cables than have to get a whole new kit.

    1. Hi Erin! I understand not wanting to get a whole new kit – that’s part of the reason I agonized so much over the purchase! I just tried the tips on the new cables and unfortunately it didn’t work (though it would have been great if it had worked! More needle options = more projects I can knit, haha!).

I do remember seeing someone else had taken their tips to someone to have them re-drilled to fit the other cables (Found it! Fleegle’s Blog: Cable Reassignment Surgery) so perhaps that’s an option? Though it might end up costing you as much or more to buy the cables and have the tips re-drilled as it would be to just buy a new set.

  2. Thanks for the reconnaissance; I’m glad I didn’t buy the cables, just to find they didn’t fit! I’ll probably just buy a whole new set…I wish Boye would redesign their cables. Their tips are just fine (not to mention affordable). But the cables! What are they thinking?!
